Characters: Alistair, Caroline, George, Hayley, Roy, Shula, Susan
- New Year’s Day finds Shula wanting to chat with Caroline who, despite singing Alistair’s praises, is happy for her friend to take what may come to her. He has, since last night, asked her (and Daniel) to a panto.
- Alistair’s complaining to Susan about Brian’s management of the business units and, in turn, Susan complains about Brian for removing from her the power to deal with his problems.
- Susan apologises to George for her brother, but he’s having none of it, reassuring her that she’s nothing to feel sorry for. He’s craving normality, having taken another step today when setting traps with William in the part of the wood where the attack took place.
- Hayley and Roy are consoling each other, neither have any sympathy despite the fact that Sharon and Luther are both off the seen. Hayley’s problem is that John’s still the same person – before, during and after – his affair, and if he can remain the same, “her”, John and she can’t tell if anything’s wrong, where’s the point? Roy said that at least he lied, his problem was that Kate didn’t even try to cover herself.
