Characters: Bert, Kate, Lynda, Roy, Sid, Tommy, Tony
- It’s the day of the big football match and the oldies (The Bull) are incomplete and the young ‘uns (The Cat) are kitted out in style. Bert (the referee) looks a picture.
- Incompetent refereeing and some “firm” tackling mean guile outwits youth as The Bull conquers 4-1 on a slightly dubious pitch which was hardly level or cow-pat free ….
- Jack has decided that, if the shop is to open on Sundays, then Betty needs help and Peggy has persuaded him that he should offer the job to Kate – she accepts.
- Lynda’s still conducting her vigil at Sawyers Farm and, keen not to return too late for the evening shift even drags Robert out of the pub to have his tea early!
- Tommy disappears mysteriously and returns in equally strange fashion saying only that he had business to attend to and that everyone would be pleased.
