Characters: Brian, Debbie, Hayley, John, Kate, Lynda, Roy
- John’s having trouble learning his lines, he and Roy aren’t pleased with Kate learning all her’s perfectly while away. John tries to ask Roy – very unsubtlely – about whether, while Kate was away, his fidelity was under threat. His clumsy queries almost made Roy suspicious (but being Roy, they didn’t).
- Debbie’s had an offer of a job with her friend Jackie’s PR company, they are after a food and farming expert and she’s seriously considering it. Brian’s amazed and tries some damage limitation with his “deputy”, which she doesn’t buy. He seems genuinely concerned she’ll go, but it’s not the money that concerns her it’s the value he places in her and his platitudes don’t assauge the feeling that she’s not respected.
- Sharon rings John’s mobile in the middle of the rehearsal, he mutters a suspicious “not tonight” and tries to pass the call off as “a supplier” but Hayley’s not convinced.
- The lovers are gelling well – especially Hayley and Kate – and that part of the play is set to be good, that is until the matter of Clive’s participation is covered. Lynda stands by her promise to give him a chance, he has paid his debt after all, but Kate is having done of it. She reminds Lynda that, served sentence aside, he once waved a gun in her face and threatened her life and nothing will remove that memory. Lynda displays her famous intransigence and Kate offers the ultimatum of Clive or her – and John, Hayley and Roy back her up.
