• The strain of being parents again is starting to show at the bungalow. David’s not particularly concerned, though, at the lack of celebration of his birthday the previous night.
• Susan’s worried about her job when the estate changes hands at the beginning of October. Brian assures her that he thinks she’s the best person for the job, but that part of the estate is not really his job.
• Jill’s worried that, in amongst the general busy-ness of Brookfield, someone might suggest she take on the milking.
• Clive’s worrying Susan, after badgering her into believing his turning of a new leaf, he’s disappeared back to London to report to his probation officer – he’s not meant to be living in Ambridge, it appears.
• Ruth’s concerned that the afternoon milking is suffering, but she doesn’t blame an exhausted David. David and Ruth want to talk to Jill, but not about the milking, as she feared. They’ve decided that David’s habit of calling the baby “JM” should be the name. The newest addition to the clan has a name – Joshua Matthew.
