Characters: Bert, David, Hayley, John, Pat, Ruth, Sharon
- Pip’s playing up – again, but this time it’s effective enough that David keeps her home. Ruth’s having trouble leaving “her” herd to Mike and she leaves Pip to her own devices, only for David, temporarily distracted by talking trivia with the newly crowned Trivia King of Ambridge, Bert, to almost run his daughter over with the tractor. All around her distraught at the near-miss.
- Pat visits Sharon to tell her what-for and that ruining John’s life once was more than enough. Sharon doesn’t appreciate the intervention and it’s obvious that Pat is absolutely furious.
- Hayley meets Pat in the Bull, and while Hayley doesn’t really want to talk about it, Pat wants their friendship to remain.
- Hayley’s in the cottage collecting some things and it’s her turn to be interrupted by someone coming home earlier than expected. After the initial surprise John attempts to talk to her. He tries to tell her about Sharon, about how, when she left the first time, he was destroyed, but how she managed to bring him around, about how, when he saw Sharon again, he couldn’t help himself, made doubly bad by her playing for him.
- The scene in April Cottage is interrupted by an angry Sharon, who’s not happy that John gets his mother to fight his battles. He angrily – in front of Hayley – throws her out on her ear, but this just washes over Hayley who, in spite of admitting that she does still love him, is aware that Sharon will always be a spectre overlooking their relationship, wherever they are, whatever they’re doing.
She quietly puts her key on the coffee table and leaves.
