Kenton pulls the Elizabethan extravaganza out of the fire with his particular line in comedy.
Radio Times: On the night of the Elizabethan extravaganza Lynda is in for a big surprise.
Characters: David, Jim, Lilian, Lynda, Peggy, Robert- Another opening of another show before which it becomes clear that Lilian is heading, not for the sand, sun and you-know-what of Dubai, but rather for the delights of Whitby, where her mum has a hankering to return. David is gob-smacked. Five minutes everyone.
- As they wait, Peggy reports to David that Clive Horrobin has broken the terms of his licence and appeared in Ambridge but the police carted him off. Lynda takes her seat in the hall as Kenton gets started on his reign of mis-rule with lots of unexpected audience participation. Robert has to practically hold Lynda down but the audience are enjoying it.
- Anyone who doesn’t take it in good part gets a bop on the head from Kenton’s pig’s bladder – it’s just a balloon on a stick; no pigs were harmed. Lynda has to grin and bear it and accept all the plaudits; Robert convinces her that Kenton has really lifted the evening. She hopes he will take no liberties with her closing speech. She need not have worried because the dedication of the concert to the late Bob Pullen and the introduction of Lynda herself are done with due solemnity and the show ends in rapturous applause.
