Josh demonstrates a head for business and Ed is shown how to run a business

Radio Times: Things begin to add up for Ed, and Ruth discovers the truth about Josh’s antics.

  • Maternal pride oozes from Ruth as she tells David what a wonderful time Pip is having, and how Josh has researched online banking to maximise his investments from the work Neil has given him.
  • Lilian comes to pick Peggy up for their holiday, but they are interrupted by Jill, who has not heard about the Whitby idea. She is not only organising the funeral wake, she is in charge of clearing Mr Pullen’s bungalow, in theory with Joe’s assistance.
  • Ruth enters Ed’s data on his laptop, and tells him he needs to do two things; negotiate a better price for his milk with Mike, and exercise better control over his outgoings. Apart from worries about affording a laptop, Ed feels quite positive; it looks as though his business has a future. When Jill calls at Brookfield, she is treated to an account of Josh’s financial know-how and the details of Ed’s rather poorer financial know-how.
  • As the travellers near Whitby, Peggy announces that she would like to have fish and chips on the promenade. Lilian has other ideas; a good meal in a warm restaurant and a good bottle of wine.
  • Susan has some interesting news for Neil. She has found out that Donna had a fling with Clive, but was apprehensive about Keith discovering it, so she and Tracy told the police Clive was in Ambridge to ensure that he would be out of the way when Keith came out of prison. Ed then comes home and tells the Carters what Ruth had to say. Susan is delighted; Emma and Tracy are reconciled and it looks as though Ed’s business has a future. What a perfect start to a new year.
