Rob makes his views clear to his wife; Jill continues to help around Brookfield.
Radio Times: Jill has no problem settling in. Meanwhile, Rob makes an urgent call.
Characters: David, Emma, Jill, Lynda, Rob, Ruth- David has had a bad night with the ewes. Ruth is sympathetic and helps to clear up. They talk of the weather and decide to leave the cows inside for two weeks. It’s still very wet. Jill calls in with a thermos of tea and a bacon roll for David. She has played the “little old lady” card with the fuel suppliers and it’s coming today. She goes back inside to tidy up. Ruth and David can’t believe how lucky they are having her stay with them.
- Rob is speaking to Jess on the phone before she goes to work. He says they can’t go on and that she has gone too far, this time. He suggests a divorce. She hangs up. “You’re going to have to see sense, sooner or later” he muses.
- Lynda calls at Brookfield and Jill shows her a pin commemorating land workers in WW1. They talk of the launch of the Lives of World War 1 project, which is going well. Lynda wonders if somehow the village could acknowledge the start of the war. Jill mentions that David has a book of old Borsetshire photographs which may give Lynda a lead. Emma calls to do the cleaning, but it sounds that Jill is doing most of her work. She flounces off upstairs to start on the bedrooms. Jill lights the newly refuelled Aga.
- Another phone call. Rob offers Jess a quick divorce partly to avoid worrying her mother. Jess is clearly not in the mood to play ball, and Rob suggests that they should be civilised in their dealings with each other. He gives her a couple of days to think things over.
- David and Ruth interrupt Jill and Lynda at Brookfield. Ruth sets about making coffee while the others go into the living room to track down David’s book of photographs. As they leave, Emma calls in to see Ruth. Emma is clearly concerned that if Jill is to stay and continues to contribute to the chores, her job will be at risk. Ruth will not hear of such things. She makes it quite clear that Jill’s stay is temporary and that they will all miss her when she returns home.
