  • Peggy rings Tony in a state. Tom dropped into say he was heading to Canada and has sold his ready meals business. Tony says they’ve only just found out too and there is no point in her getting upset but she says of course she’s upset. Who knows when they will see him again.
  • David and Ruth are getting sheep ready for market and Ruth says she’s seen a ewe scratching and is a bit worried. David dismisses it. Shula arrives and offers to help out with the lambs while Ruth gets on. She is trying to encourage people to attend the Council meeting on the link road. David still hasn’t heard anything about the road directly but thinks Charlie might know something. David and Shula are both not sure if Brian is telling the truth when he says he doesn’t know anything. In the meantime, we have the annual thrill of Open Farm Sunday in two weeks’ time.
  • Pat tells Peggy they are just as upset and confused as her. They haven’t seen Tom since Friday and haven’t heard anything more and he is not answering the phone. Tony starts going off on a rant again and Pat tries to shut him up. Pat tells Peggy that Tom has asked them to keep the pigs going and Tony starts ranting again – why should they, he’ll end up doing all the work and is even more annoyed that Tom wants them to involve Rob. Tony announces that they aren’t keeping the pigs. Peggy tells him they have to look at the options properly and Pat tells him they should keep them. Tony is adamant but Peggy reminds him that it was John’s business to start with and Tom only took them over for his sake. Tony says they can’t afford to be sentimental. Finally when Pat gets to speak, she says they must keep the pigs because they are the only thing that might give Tom a reason to come back some day. They’ve already lost one son. She couldn’t bear to lose another.
