Arrangements are made to keep an eye out for Peggy; planning via the fete committee is underway.
Radio Times: Susan is not satisfied, while the fete committee is on a roll.
Characters: Christine, Jill, Kenton, Neil, Susan, Tony- The Bull is bustling with activity. Chris and Jill are waiting for the start of the village fete committee, while Jolene is away upstairs preparing to audition Midnight Walkers hopefuls. Chris spots the flyers for the pub’s champagne and strawberry tea, masterminded by Fallon, for the Wimbledon finals. Elsewhere, Susan is hectoring Neil, to get Tony to agree to managers pay rates and conditions. Tony turns up with the drinks, Susan departs to the committee meeting and Neil broaches his pay over a game of darts. The deal is done.
- In the fete committee meeting, Jill suggests that though a plain and simple fete may have been the order of the day some weeks ago, with the threat of the new road hanging over them, they should consider a SAVE stall with loads of publicity material. Kenton suggests a poster similar to the Kitchener “Your country (village) needs you” to tie in with WW1 events. They settle on a country scene, with similar wording.
- At home, Susan is keen to hear of her husband’s first managerial success in agreeing suitable pay rates with his employer. She becomes annoyed when it becomes clear that the word “manager” didn’t feature in their conversations. It’s not about being a manager she says archly, it’s “about being a man”. Ouch!
- Kenton arranges to give Jill a lift home after she has walked Chris to her front door. The auditions seemed to go well. Jill confides in Chris that she is increasingly concerned about Peggy’s wellbeing, after her recent losses. She asks if Christine would join her in dropping in on Peggy regularly and generally looking out for her, especially with Lilian and Jennifer going away soon, and Tony being run off his feet at Bridge Farm. They agree to join forces.
