The Midnight Walkers recruit a new singer. Brian vetoes a new bathroom.
Radio Times: Brian tells Jennifer when to stop, while Jolene’s got a date with PC Burns.
Characters: Brian, Fallon, Harrison, Jennifer, Jill, Jolene, Peggy- Brian is delighted to have Jenny home, mainly because she is preparing simple little supper of Hassett Hills lamb, a bean salad and potatoes dauphinoise in her lovely new kitchen. She is also planning a simple little soiree with the Lord Lieutenant and a few other grandees in attendance.
- Fallon excitedly shows Jolene a samovar she has bought. She plans to serve different teas from it at Loxfest, about which she is extremely excited. When Jolene reminds her that PC Burns is coming to audition, Fallon seems flustered.
- Jenny and Jill call on Peggy and tell her what they are doing at Loxfest. Jill appears to be baking for the whole of Borsetshire, though Jenny does offer to help. Peggy is, to say the least, surprised when she learns that Lilian is to demonstrate knitting in the handicraft tent. When her visitors prepare to leave, Peggy seems sad, so Jenny invites her to lunch on Sunday. When they get outside, Jill suggests that Peggy’s low spirits might be connected to John Tregorran’s death. When Jenny learns that his funeral is to be in Ambridge, she immediately offers to help with catering for the wake. It seems Peggy is not the only one to be upset.
- Harrison Burns is in full-on self-deprecating mode when Jolene asks him to sing, but is eventually persuaded to burst into song with a fine rendition of Annie’s Song. Gaining confidence he sings several more numbers, and when Fallon arrives, the three harmonise wonderfully. It seems that The Midnight Walkers are again a force to reckon with.
- Hearing that Jenny is to cater for the wake as well as the soiree, Brian expostulates. He expostulates a great deal more when Jenny produces an interior design magazine and announces that she intends to have new bathrooms. If she does it will be divorce, suicide or murder, he says.
