  • Alan reads a passage in a morning memorial for the dead of World War I. Rosemary along with pink and white flowers make up the wreaths instead of poppies because, as Alan notes, Flanders fields had yet to happen in 1914.
  • Ed is still upset about not having money for Emma’s birthday. Emma announces that Susan is taking her for a mother/daughter make-over. Fallon asks Emma to bake for her stall at Loxfest and also for her proposed tea room. Emma is excited but Ed cannot see past his own misery.
  • Fallon asks Jill if she would bake for the tea shop; Fallon wants to spotlight locally made cakes. Shula says it is too much for Jill and reminds Jill that she is 83. Jill, who hadn’t been enthusiastic at first, changes her mind after this announcement and tells Fallon she will do what she can.
  • Alan and Peggy see Ed coming out of a pawn shop and he asks them not to mention it to anyone. Ed gives Emma a present but he is evasive about where the money came from. Emma is pleased with her gift but what did Ed pawn for this birthday surprise?
  • Shula, Jill and Peggy meet up at the church for the evening memorial. Jill gives a reading.
