David and Ruth find a lovely farm in Northumbria.
Radio Times: Jill confides in Carol. Meanwhile, Jim turns up trumps for Eddie.
Characters: Bert, Carol, David, Eddie, Jill, Jim, Ruth- In the garden at Glebe Cottage the talk is of raised vegetable beds and manure when Jill arrives to do some baking with Carol. Carol would prefer that Bert did not always call her ‘Mrs Tregorran’ and that he didn’t feel it necessary to consult her at every turn.
- Despite his proven track record in daft ideas, Eddie has excelled himself this time. Keen to get extra publicity for his turkeys, that are already embarked on their journey to Christmas obesity, he is consulting Jim about a Roman connection to turkeys. Alas no, they originated much later and in Mexico but Jim will give it some thought – over a pint later.
- The first Northumbrian farm they have seen was not impressive but David confesses he was shocked to see how much Heather has deteriorated; of course, if they move north it will not be just for her sake but it is a bigger factor than he expected.
- As they bake, Carol picks up on Jill’s mood and invites her to unburden herself. She can see this possible move is a huge worry; would Jill go with them? If Route B goes ahead, Jill may not want to live here.
- In The Bull, Jim declares (before drink has been taken!) that the Romans used chickens as oracles. The details of this are explained to Eddie who leaps on it as an idea to attract people in droves; once he has got them he can sell them turkeys, not to mention holly and mistletoe.
- David has to admit that the second farm they looked at was lovely and just the right size. It needs some updating but is pretty tidy overall. It’s a big step. Ruth’s mum would certainly like the idea but what about David’s mum?
