David and Ruth begin to feel the backlash from the village from their selling out.

Radio Times: There is unrest among the Blithe Spirit cast, and gossip spreads about Brookfield.

Characters: , , , , ,
  • David has been asked by Alan to provide a calf. And then he says that Alan had asked Jill to do a reading to which she said no. Alan convinced her but she sounded under the weather.
  • Caroline has pulled out of Blithe Spirit so that’s a blow. Helen promises she’ll be there. Tony seems a bit better. Lynda has been doing an interview for the Echo and is horrified to find she is dropping out. Lynda is determined to carry on with the SAVE campaign though. Alice mentions that Brian has resigned and that David may be sounding a little unsure. Lynda is astonished to hear about it.
  • Lynda turns up at Brookfield to ask if they are still interested in the SAVE Committee. She implies they have sold out. David and Ruth say they have done whatever they would have done but they still oppose the road and agree to go to the next meeting. Though in private, David finds the idea of the meeting very difficult.
  • Helen is a bit confused about work on the farm but thinks she can sort it out. And is equally confused to hear from Susan that David and Ruth are selling up to Justin. Suddenly all of their principles are out of the window.
  • Ruth gets a phone call from Eric and Moira White who had ordered beef. They are cancelling their order. They won’t buy from people who have betrayed them. Ruth is upset but David tells her not to let it get to them. He does understand though. It will seem bad to be involved with them. They will lose either way.
  • At the rehearsals, Alice complains about Lynda’s presentation but Helen is more anxious about getting away because she’d told Rob she’d be home. Alice and Lynda squabble about the interpretation of the play. Alice finds Lynda’s interpretation ludicrous and Lynda is outraged.
