There is a delay in the Archer move to a new farm and Ed receives a crushing business notice.
Radio Times: Pip feels determined, and there is bad news for Ed.
Characters: David, Ed, Eddie, Emma, Jill, Pip, Ruth- The discussion continues about automatic milking on the new farm. Ruth and Pip seem to have convinced David to convert to automation. It will take a good deal of time to set up the operation, however; the move to the new farm will have to be delayed several months until late spring, early summer. Justin Elliott must be consulted about temporary residency so that the delay can be accommodated.
- Emma is picking over designs for her wedding dress when Ed comes in with the mail. Ed is struck by something he characterizes as ‘a mix-up in the rent.’ He makes his excuses and leaves quickly.
- Pip and Jill sort through boxes of old toys and dolls that date back to the childhoods of David, Shula, Kenton and Elizabeth. Grandmother and granddaughter enjoy reminiscing about each item.
- Ed consults Eddie about his problem. Ed has been sent a notice of forfeiture because he is behind on his rent. He must vacate his cows immediately. Eddie asks how much he is behind; Ed is distraught and defensive but Eddie notes that he is not judging his son but just wants to help.
- David is having difficulty reaching Justin Elliott and the request for time will have to wait until next week. Jill comes in to ask David to make decisions on which toys to keep. David has more pressing matters and refuses to be amused nor will he commit to looking at the toys.
- As Ed and Eddie are putting their heads together, Emma shows up. Ed is forced to tell her about the notice to vacate the land. Emma becomes emotional but Eddie seems to be the voice of reason for a change. He advises consultation with a tenant farmers’ organization to see what can be done.
