David is hailed as a hero but he feels he has failed his family and his farm.

  • Shula is searching through Grey Gables for Bert or Freda. She is very relieved to see David and informs him that Elizabeth and Christine are fine. Elizabeth brings tea to Fallon and Joe and hears how The Bull was badly flooded. Harrison drops by and hears that Clarrie has managed to save the ferrets but Lynda is greatly distressed by the missing Scruff.
  • Elizabeth and Shula try to talk David out of trying to get to Brookfield Farm. Roy approaches Elizabeth and insists on finding her some dry clothing. While they are alone, Roy tells Elizabeth that Hayley has asked for a divorce. Roy is shocked to hear that Phoebe was at The Bull when it flooded.
  • Fallon tries to amuse Keira but Roy runs up to ask about Phoebe. No one knows where she went when the evacuation took place. Roy is frantic.
  • Joe found some chicken to feed his ferrets and he tells David that his father would have been proud of his rescue efforts. Joe reassures David that Pip will be fine because she is sensible and is born to the farm life. Meanwhile, in the background we hear Roy spot Phoebe among the sheltering refugees and a joyful reunion takes place.
  • Lynda’s overwrought emotions cause her to attack David for leaving the village. He doesn’t defend himself by revealing that the sale has been cancelled although Shula tries to explain. David leaves abruptly and Elizabeth finds him weeping because of worry about Pip and Jill. The flood is worse than a new road and David feels a failure because he couldn’t defend his own farm. He is determined to leave on the tractor as soon as it is light even though Elizabeth urges him to wait until it is safer.
