There are mutterings about incorrect behaviour and Italian pronunciation at the opera and shock at Brookfield when Jolene breaks some news.
Radio Times: Jolene has bad news.
Characters: Christine, David, Fallon, Jill, Jim, Jolene, Pip, Shula- Pip seems to be in overdrive, talking in brittle fashion about the amount of work she has to get through. She rejects Jill’s offer of some food, but when Jill tells her how pleased she is that Pip has come home where she belongs, Pip seems somewhat mollified.
- Jim takes Christine to La Boheme, where the performance is spoilt by the sound of Eddie’s mobile and Sabrina Thwaite’s selfie-taking. At the interval they encounter Fallon, who talks about the ‘show’ and tells them how high rentals are in the area. Chris wonders whether Woodbine Cottage would suit – repairs are almost finished. They make an amicable swap of Chris’s bruschetta from Jim for Fallon’s pork pie, with an accompanying lecture in Italian pronunciation from the pompous professor.
- Jolene calls at Brookfield with some wine for the family meal, to which Ruth is not coming, owing to a leak at Heather’s house. Strangely Kenton is also failing to put in an appearance, and when Jill comments on his ‘sulks’, Jolene is forced to explain their financial situation. The Bull is having to close. She, too will miss the meal; she is too upset to come. A shocked family discuss the news. David declares it is not too late to save The Bull.
