  • Emma takes the children to play at Grange Farm and finds Ed there thinking. He seems determined to e-mail Oliver and to give up the lease. He’ll never be a farmer. He can’t afford to replace the cattle. There is nothing for it. Emma tells him he mustn’t do anything without talking to Joe and Eddie. It would break Joe’s heart.
  • Later in The Bull, Ed tells Eddie and Joe. Joe is obviously shocked but he takes it well. Eddie offers to lend him money from the big pub job he had but he can’t accept it. Eddie tells him a tenancy is hard to come by but Ed is determined it is the end of the road.
  • Adam asks David what he thinks about the Fairbrothers. David says the geese enterprise seems to be going reasonably well but he isn’t convinced they have the experience for a large beef enterprise. David suggests asking for a business plan which he can quiz them on. Adam thinks that is a good idea.
  • Emma agrees with Eddie that the tenancy isn’t something to give up lightly. She can help now, he isn’t the only breadwinner. Once the farm cafe is up and running they will have more money coming in. He must not talk to Oliver yet.
  • Charlie and Adam have a drink. He says that nothing is going to convince anyone that Berrow Farm was just bad luck. Then a very drunk Ed and Joe turn on Charlie and blame him for Ed losing his cows. Adam sticks up for him and says Charlie has given Ed a lot of chances. They wander off saying there will be a judgement. Adam suggests a village meeting to tell the truth. Adam will speak and Brian will chair. Charlie is very touched.
