Adam is in limbo but at least he has a roof over his head; with the aid of her friend, Helen begins to make sense of life again.
Radio Times: The Bull has an unexpected guest, and Joe is having a nose round Glebe Cottage.
Characters: Adam, Bert, Helen, Joe, Kenton, Kirsty- Kenton tries to persuade Adam to take some breakfast. He stayed overnight at The Bull. Kenton’s suggestion that he should move in at Home Farm isn’t well met. There’s far too much going on there. He just wants to keep a low profile for a few days. He insists that it’s not all over between him and Ian.
- At Bridge Farm, Helen tells Kirsty that she’s concerned that Rob won’t let Jack go. Rob’s visiting arrangements have been made for Sunday at The Tea Rooms with Tony providing supervision. Helen admits to feeling nervous about starting driving again. Kirsty strikes while the iron’s hot. They decide to go to leave Jack with Tony while they go over to Loxley Barratt to get some practice in.
- Bert is chatting to Joe at Glebe Cottage while he looks after Carol’s entries for The Flower and Produce Show. She won’t be back for a few days and there are jobs to be done. Joe reckons that the award in Freda’s name has sparked great interest. Bert makes a potentially disastrous mistake by telling Joe he has a key to the cottage. He offers to keep Bert company while he waters the house plants. Beware Bert!
- Driving practice is going well. While stopped by temporary traffic lights, Helen explains that she has been asked by the police to consider taking action against Rob, in light of Helen’s evidence in court. The problem is that she dreads the idea of having to go through the process again. Kirsty agrees that it could be an ordeal. Perhaps she could talk it over with Anna when she returns. Helen agrees … and then stalls the car. Oops! Helen and Kirsty return in high spirits. Helen is amazed that Kirsty always comes up with sensible answers to problems. Helen will talk to Anna but feels that it may be easier to get the first two or three contact visits out of the way first.
- At Glebe Cottage, Joe is busy making cups of tea and making a meal of all the scraps of food he can find in the fridge and the biscuit tin. Bert looks on in horror, wondering just what Carol will say on her return.
- At The Bull, Kenton is sorting out Adam’s accommodation needs. While in conversation, they are spotted by Joe who is drinking in the bar. He tells Bert that he’s heard a rumour that Adam and Ian have parted company. Being a good sort of chap, Bert calls Adam over as he attempts to leave and manages somehow to persuade him to stay and join their quiz team, The Old Contemptibles. Adam’s only too glad of the company.
