Alistair decides to take on Anisha as a partner and Toby must give up his gin dreams or leave David’s cottage.
Radio Times: David serves an ultimatum, and Alistair moves forward.
Characters: Alistair, Anisha, David, Pip, Toby- David empathises with Pip about her disappointment on the soil enrichment programme. David seems as discouraging as Adam about changing Brian’s mind. David is sceptical about Toby’s job interview. He thinks Toby is a freeloader. The discussion becomes heated and Pip storms out.
- Anisha drops into Alistair’s office on her way to Felpersham. She arranges to meet Alistair for a chat in The Bull this evening. Anisha says she looks forward to meeting more Ambridge characters like Joe Grundy. No problem because they are everywhere, laughs Alistair.
- Pip finally reaches Toby on his mobile but it turns out that the ‘job’ was a weird arty skin flick run by art students who wanted Toby to work for free. He is now doing ‘market research.’ Pip notes that it sounds as if he were in a bar. They arrange to have a nice evening in The Bull on his return because Pip needs cheering up.
- As Alistair checks over a cow, David and Alistair discuss Usha’s difficulties with renting her cottage. Apparently Rob left it in bad repair and with that unsavoury history, Usha is finding it difficult to rent. Dan is ready to set off for Canada for an exchange programme. Josh is expanding the free range egg business and Rex will manage the unit when Josh goes to university next year. Alistair asks if David has heard about Toby’s latest idea.
- Pip changes her mind about going into The Bull but Toby recognises Anisha outside. Alistair shows up and they enter The Bull. Anisha and Alistair discuss the financial details of the evaluation. Alistair has made up his mind to accept Anisha as a partner as soon as they can arrange the money negotiations. Anisha is charmed by all events planned at The Bull and seems taken with village life. Alistair warns her that it can be very difficult to keep secrets.
- David storms into the cottage to confront Toby about the gin still. This is outrageous, says Pip. No what is outrageous is the illegal still, shouts David. Toby claims that it is for personal consumption and for friends. David points out Kenton says Toby tried to sell it to The Bull. Pip seems a bit subdued at this point and asks if Mum knows. Yes she does, answers David, and your Gran has steam coming out of her ears. No surprise there, mutters Toby. Don’t you know that the still is completely illegal, asks David? Setting up and operating a still is against the law in this country. David says he has no choice. Either the still goes or they both go. Simple as that.
