Ambridge’s youngest resident makes an entrance.

Radio Times: Brenda is on edge, and Tony means business.

Characters: Brenda, Mike, Tom, Tony, Vicky

• After a long night in the hospital waiting room, Brenda rings Tom. Things are progressing well with the birth of Mike and Vicky’s baby. Tom apparently wishes he could be there.
• At Bridge Farm Tony is anxious to talk to Tom. Tony makes it clear that he fears the expansion of Tom’s business will jeopardise the future of Bridge Farm. Tom disagrees, and launches into the usual account of how his business is just about to move to the next stage, but Tony stands his ground. He has asked Trevor about morning milking and is awaiting his decision. Sullen Tom has no option but to agree to wait for this.
• At last the baby is born, but is short of oxygen and has to be resuscitated. Eventually all is well, and she is the most beautiful baby Mike and Vicky have ever seen. When Brenda sees her she is moved to tears. She rings Tom to tell him that Bethany Clare is perfect.
