Berrow Farm is to close – but tell no-one. Phoebe passes her driving test.
Radio Times: Brian can always be relied on for his discretion, while Phoebe seems to be on a roll.
Characters: Brian, Helen, Jennifer, Justin, Rob, Tom- There’s a visitor expected for lunch at Home Farm; Justin wants to run something past Brian because, Brian is convinced, of his local knowledge. Phoebe returns from a final driving lesson before her test this afternoon.
- Rob is amazed at how much the baby has grown since the last scan; what are they going to call him? Learning that Helen has not yet been able to contact Ian, he is scathing about his implied enthusiasm to be a godparent.
- With the smalltalk out of the way Justin comes to the point: he is going to close Berrow Farm. It took a while to accept but the financial losses leave no him option; he has never had his fingers burnt so badly; it was simply the wrong time to get into milk.
- Haven’t they got too much fruit in the farm shop? Helen must have got the order wrong but Rob won’t tell her; she would be mortified. Oddly, he announces to Tom that he and Helen would like their job-share salaries paid into their joint bank account.
- Back home, pausing only to make derogatory remarks about the party Helen has arranged for Henry’s 5th birthday, he tells her about the fruit order. How could that happen? Helen is sure she had carefully assessed what they would sell this week; she did not repeat the Christmas order.
- At Home Farm, it is no clearer why Justin wanted to consult Brian; the decision about Berrow Farm had been made. Jenny must tell no-one, especially not Adam. Phoebe has passed her test and Jennifer takes it as a good omen for Oxford. Phoebe takes it that her dad is a good driving instructor.
