Brian’s head is full of a new plan to expand Home Farm.
Radio Times: Brian shares his vision, and Pip sticks up for Toby.
Characters: Adam, Brian, Jennifer, Pip, Ruth, Toby- It being their anniversary soon, Adam is wondering how to treat Ian. His mother cautions about too much too soon. She invites them for supper on Friday. Left on their own, Brian and Jennifer both have news to impart but Brian insists on going first. He has been discussing with Justin, the possible sale by BL of a block of estate land, 337 acres, with the proceeds reinvested in development projects; it will be discussed by the board next week. The land adjoins Home Farm so Brian wants to bid for it. It would cost about £2.7M of which they would need to borrow all but £1M.
- Just get the still out of here, Toby; Pip simply wants to see the back of it. She arranges to see mum this afternoon to ‘catch up’.
- Brian explains the scheme to Adam; it would make their operation much more flexible but Adam questions taking on this huge commitment now. Brian declares will need Adam’s expertise on soil fertility to bring it up to scratch! They had better walk the land together.
- Pip swears to her mum that she didn’t know the still was illegal. Toby just didn’t think it through; it wasn’t deliberate. For all his faults, Toby is exciting and fun. As for actually moving the still, he’s made a couple of enquiries. Just get rid of it!
- Brian reports back that Adam has concerns, particularly about the money. They will look at the land together tomorrow. Finally Jennifer has the opportunity to tell her news – about Lilian and Justin’s affair. Brian can see this as only good for the land deal.
