Characters: , , , , , ,
  • Jill and Caroline discuss Shula’s seeming anxiety. Jill thinks she must be mistaken because Shula has everything to be happy about.
  • Peggy and Tom discuss little Jack. Helen seems to be coping but the time passes very slowly for her. Tom laments that it is such a waste of talent. He wishes there was more for him to do to help her. Peggy reassures him that he is doing all he can. They discuss Helen’s friend Kaz who looks so young but has three children. Tom mentions how Rob managed to cut Helen off from all her friends and supporters. Peggy questions how they could not have seen what was happening; Rob is a master manipulator, Tom explains.
  • Caroline and Shula talk while exercising the horses. Dorothy, Dan’s girlfriend, is coming down for the weekend. They sadly talk about not being able to help Helen and about how Rob had everyone fooled. Caroline tells Shula that an offer came in this morning for Grange Farm that is very close to the asking price. Caroline declares it isn’t her home anymore but Oliver is hesitating because the offer is from a developer who will extend and divide the property into holiday homes.
  • Anna tells Helen that she will need a character witness who will take the stand and testify to her good character. No one who is already a witness can do this and this eliminates Kirsty. Helen suggests Neil Carter and mentions Ian but she is not sure Ian will want to get involved after Rob intentionally ruined their friendship. Helen hesitantly relates how Rob deliberately isolated Helen from her family and friends. She tells about the lonely Christmas and how Rob took over her job. Ursula, too, eroded Helen’s self-confidence and when Helen wanted Ursula to leave, Rob slapped her. Helen is beginning to remember and acknowledge these sorts of incidents.
  • Jill was the one who was awake in the night and saw Toby Fairbrother leaving Pip’s cottage. As she tells Peggy the story, Jill is greatly distressed because she can’t help but think of Elizabeth’s sorrow at the hands of the Fairbrother father.
  • Anna asks Helen about her call to the Help Line. Anna wants the Help Line to confirm Helen’s call but Helen refuses to authorize the release of the information. It would be collaboration of Helen’s cry for help and a third party would be able to explain the reasons for Helen’s desperate search for assistance.
