Charlie puts an idea into Pip’s head about a job away from Brookfield. Eddie’s sideboard renovation is a disaster.
Radio Times: Eddie gets it wrong, but the future is bright for Pip.
Characters: Adam, Charlie, Clarrie, Eddie, Joe, Pip- Adam and Pip are off to get a dose of new technology in farming, once they have picked up their passenger. Charlie thinks it’s the future.
- Over breakfast at Grey Gables, Eddie and Clarrie discuss Lynda’s underfloor heating in her conservatory. The work at Keeper’s is going to take a while. Meanwhile, Joe has found some more donated clothes – so what if the trousers are pink.
- There are some great innovations coming along, if farmers can afford them. Charlie argues that they can’t afford not to. Adam is more cautious about adopting technology. Next they plan to look at the drones.
- Joe had taken Bartleby out but now, back at the field, Eddie wants his opinion on the sideboard. His verdict: a right mess, terrible, scrap it or start again. Clarrie ain’t going to like it. Sure enough, when Clarrie calls on them and sees it she is very upset; she is not interested in explanations, just get rid of it. That’s not the effect Eddie was seeking.
- Charlie asks what caught Pip’s eye. Mum and dad were too busy but Charlie agrees that farmers have to find time for the future. Adam is less dazzled by the technology – emperor’s new clothes – but Charlie is determined to convince him that technology holds the future of farming. Charlie shows Pip a job advert for a technical manager: a chance to work in Europe or even further afield; what has she got to lose?
