Radio Times: Pip has got a lot to think about, while Susan feels alarmed.

Characters: , , , , , ,
  • Ruth plans to send Josh up north to collect her mother. David has misgivings but it’s the only way that both Ruth and he will be able to get to the village flood defence meeting. Pip flies in and drags David off to repair fences. While working, David comments on the improvement in pasture quality. Pip wonders what new challenges there will be now that they are staying at Brookfield. Just where will they be in 20 years’ time?
  • At Bridge Farm, Tom tries to have a word with Susan, but misses his chance as Fallon calls in for a birthday card. Susan comments on Hazel’s flying visit to the village to inspect the damage. Fallon mentions that the village shop is a prime bit of real estate and that it just might make a valuable weekend let. Susan is horrified at the prospect. It just couldn’t happen… could it?
  • Johnny is clearing the yard watched by Helen and Tom. Ruth drops by and asks Tom to donate some pork to the village meal, before heading to the shop where Susan tells her and Fallon that Emma’s wedding dress is nearing completion. She also takes the opportunity to hope that Brookfield will need to employ Ed in the coming year.
  • Fallon tells Tom about her plans for a pop-up Bull on the village green. He admits to Helen that he hasn’t managed to speak to Susan yet but just as he heads for the shop, telephone engineers arrive to sort out the Post Office phone lines. Foiled again Tom!
  • David shares his concerns about Pip with Ruth. Pip sounds quite unenthusiastic about her future at Brookfield. But, as he speaks, Pip flies in like a whirlwind with an idea for a barn dance to run alongside the village meal. It won’t take too much organising. With that, she zooms off again. Unenthusiastic? Pip?
  • As Susan goes for lunch, Helen tries to get Tom to strike while the iron is hot. He dithers, and Helen does the business, asking Susan if they could have a small corner of the shop to be dedicated to local produce. Surprisingly, she agrees but says that she can’t make arrangements for if and when she returns to the village shop. Brother and sister head off to give Tony the good news and try to take his mind off tomorrows HSE visit.
