Dan wins the single wicket competition and prepares for his sternest test yet.
Radio Times: It’s a busy day in Ambridge, but who’s the winner?
Characters: Alistair, Charlie, Dan, David, Rob, Ruth, Shula- What luxury! Dan can have a lie in but if he wants to visit Brookfield and Berrow Farm and play in the single wicket then he needs to shake a leg.
- Although the cows at the new dairy unit are normally inside, it is deemed good PR to put some of them out in the sun – the dry ones. Charlie also wants some calves outside – pretty ones for the punters to photograph.
- Ruth thinks that Dan is already taller – a lot to do with posture, he reckons. The boys are dying to hear about army life. Shula’s main topic of conversation is the new road.
- Alistair waits for Dan at Berrow Farm; it’s a good excuse for a nose round. Charlie makes him welcome but when he discovers that The Echo reporter and photographer are here, having already been to Brookfield, he must of course go and find them. They have a problem calving and Charlie takes advantage of having a vet on the spot. Alistair is able to save the cow but sadly not the calf; he will be sending his bill. Charlie seems pleased with the day; free venison burgers have gone down well. Like everyone else in sight, he has been shown Helen’s engagement ring.
- Alistair is running late as a result of the calving but is just in time to commentate on the single wicket competition. The eventual winner is Dan, beating Roy in the final, so he is presented with his father’s trophy. Over tea with his mum he explains that Exercise Long-Reach takes 36 hours including just four hours asleep. The colour sergeant assures him that they have not lost anyone – yet.
