Fallon is planning organic brunches in the cafe. Rob is snide about Tom’s decision to stock some non-organic beef in the shop.
Radio Times: Fallon has a brainwave, and Rob feels enlightened.
Characters: Brian, David, Fallon, Jazzer, Rob, Ruth, Tom- Jazzer is fed up with muesli at Bridge Farm so has resorted to bacon butties in the cafe. Fallon is more concerned that she has been asked to take care of a bride’s rabbit at her wedding reception. Tom is chasing Jazzer to the pigs and comments how empty the cafe is. Fallon admits it is slow. Some of the offers are working and they’ve got a few regulars. She’s had a brainwave though. Special organic Sunday brunches and they could even roll it out over the rest of the week if it’s a success. Tom admits he is thinking of expanding his range from the pigs. Something needs to cheer Maurice up a bit. Tom won’t say exactly what he is thinking of yet.
- David is trying to build up his strength by helping Ruth build the lambing pens. They discuss Pip and Matthew. They suppose it’s a good thing. He’s better than Jude and it’s none of their business anyway. David will be interested to hear about the visit to the Welbys’ farm. She’s really taken to the dairy idea.
- Brian visits Brookfield to hear about their plans. He thinks they are being very brave. Ruth says it’s the opposite. They are doing it because they are cautious. The new system will be much more resilient. They are becoming more self-reliant again. But Brian wonders if they’d thought through the risks. Run off into the Am seems to be something he is most worried about. Brian just thinks he is becoming allergic to change. At least they’ve had some good news that Justin is making noises about giving them the estate arable contract back again. Brian just hopes Justin will follow though. Nothing’s been agreed yet.
- Tom finds Rob in the shop. Rob is very sneering to find non-organic beef in the chiller cabinets. He wasn’t aware there was a change of strategy. Tom insists it’s high quality, high welfare beef. He knows how good it is so he agreed to take some from a local farmer. Rob said if he’d known he and Helen might have thought more about taking the Fairbrothers’ geese. Tom says it’s not about rules it’s about being flexible. Rob passively aggressively says it’s nice to know about the new strategy.
- The bungalow is close to being finished and Bert is looking forward to moving back. He’s been doing really well recently and has sorted out the village hall garden. David starts worrying about something Brian said about a hybrid system. Ruth tells him he was only being mischievous. They’ll show Brian.
