  • Determined to put an end to hostilities, Harrison calls at the Vicarage to see Usha. Alan is at home and stays to hear the exchange. Harrison explains his open nets idea and hopes that Usha will come. Brightly, Alan remarks what a good idea it is, which does little to endear him to his wife, who says she will not be there as she is planning to attend Alan’s Maundy Thursday service. Surprised, Alan points out that it starts at 7.30, leaving plenty of time for nets, endearing him even less to his wife. When Harrison leaves, Alan tells Usha she was too hard on him. They agree to meet in Felpersham for lunch.
  • As Tom and Tony talk over one very sick cow and four more showing early symptoms of IBR, Tom once more launches into an attack on David’s husbandry. he is determined to make David pay for their losses. Tony tries to mollify him; they have no proof that Brookfield was the source and he wants to avoid a family rift. Darkly, Tom says he will find a way. This appears to involve the Bridge Farm blog, but for now he is not letting Tony know what he intends.
  • Posh sandwiches by the river do much to cheer Alan up in a busy week and Usha in her fury about the cricket team. She admits that what hurt her most was being told she was not good enough. lamely, Alan suggests that more practice might improve matters. She is failing to see the bigger picture. Usha remains unconvinced, and turns the conversation to Alan, who is overworking. Is it to compensate for something? Alan admits it is because he failed to stop Rob in his revengeful actions. Somehow he just could not reach him, and even Rob is not beyond Christian forgiveness.
  • Harrison calls at The Bull for lunch, bemoaning his lack of success in attracting Ambridge’s women-folk to nets. He hates fallings-out; Kenton can only agree. He seems to have fallen out with Toby. But if Susan and Usha decide not to come to nets, Ambridge will be looking for a new Cricket captain.
