Jack’s dementia takes a new turn. Alistair’s gambling addiction lures him towards more debt.

Radio Times: Jack gets an unwelcome visitor.

  • Alistair’s snack lunch is interrupted by a phone call from Matt. He wants to meet for a drink at The Bull but it is not about Alistair’s gambling debts.
  • Tom and Brenda are finding the corporate event at Lower Loxley a bit slack, so the flat fee seems like a very good idea. The sparks nearly fly when Tom realises that they have not brought the spare gas bottle, which he says he had asked Brenda to load up – she says not.
  • As previously arranged, Fallon calls at The Lodge to talk to Jack about the early years of Grey Gables but she finds him aggressive and uncooperative. Peggy is most apologetic; she sees this behaviour occasionally but this is the first time someone else has.
  • The burger crisis is avoided with some cut prices for those who had to wait. Brenda is disgusted that, as local producers, they have been turned down by the catering contractor at the Borchester Show; she will approach the organisers directly.
  • Matt explains that his poker friends were sorry not to see Alistair last Saturday – and he knows that Alistair excuse about working is untrue: he joined another poker school and lost there too. He felt he couldn’t show his face again until he could pay his debts. Nonsense. Matt has a big game coming up and he wants Alistair to take part. Go on – you know you want to. (Shula isn’t going to like this!)
