Jennifer says rather too much. Ruth says little. Rob is careful in what he says.

Radio Times: More than a canape is shared at the ball – and speaking of startling revelations …

  • About to set off for New Zealand, Ruth is still packing. Usha calls to wish her well and gently probes Ruth about her feelings towards David. Ruth is unsure. Maybe she will find out when she gets there.
  • Adam shows Justin his herbal leys which Justin views with a certain cynicism. If it is doing such wonders for the soil, why isn’t every arable farmer planting it?
  • Jennifer shows Lynda an empty cow shed where Robert can come and take the calendar photo. Lynda strips off while Jennifer arranges the props strategically. Hearing Jennifer’s voice, Justin charges off to speak to her, but his presence in the cow shed is not appreciated by a naked Lynda. Justin beats an embarrassed retreat.
  • David drives Ruth to the airport but the conversation if horribly strained. David is shaken when Ruth refers to the tour leader as Sam, though to David’s relief he appears not to be plate-meter Sam. Struggling to say the right thing, and with his offer to ‘grab’ a coffee rejected, David tells Ruth he loves her. All he gets in return is a ‘Yeh’ in Ruth’s little girl voice.
  • The Hunt Ball is underway, and unsurprisingly Rob is there on his own, as Helen is too exhausted to attend. He makes sure Jennifer has plenty to drink, even ‘grabbing’ a bottle to top up her glass, and proceeds to probe her about her comment at the shoot about Adam. A befuddled Jennifer tells him about Adam and Pawel, and realising her mistake, begs Rob not to tell anyone else. Rob solemnly swears he will never tell a living soul. Of course he won’t.
  • Justin does some probing of his own, trying to find out why Rob left Berrow Farm. Rob says what a good chap Charlie is – if a little bureaucratic, and not entirely on top of the finances – and is reticent when Justin asks about Stefan. Very interesting muses Justin. Then Rob has to take his turn blowing the hunting horn. He performs magnificently, of course.
