Jonathan takes an interest in Helen’s past. Matt takes an interest in Lilian’s activities.
Radio Times: Clarrie looks forward to her birthday and Helen tells all.
Characters: Clarrie, Helen, Jonathan, Lilian, Matt, Pat- As they clear up in the dairy, Clarrie asks Pat how the TB tests went. Pat is somewhat evasive and turns the conversation to Clarrie’s birthday. She intends to celebrate it with a big family lunch, cooked, of course, by Clarrie. It will be so nice to have all the family round the table.
- Helen is looking forward to another date with Jonathan, and has bought a new dress and had her hair done. She expects to be late home. Pat comments that she is concerned for Tom, who has taken the news of the possible reactor hard on top of his break-up with Brenda.
- Lilian is taken aback when she finds Matt examining her mobile. He airily tells her how important it is to keep Brenda on side now that Lilian is out so much. In fact Lilian is off out again, this time to a design exhibition. Matt seems to be increasingly suspicious, and shocks Lilian by turning up at the event.
- Helen’s evening starts promisingly, with Jonathan admiring her appearance. She tells him the story of her life, and he is sympathetic over Greg’s death, but his mood quickly changes when Helen reveals the circumstances of Henry’s conception. Far from staying out late, Helen is driven home quite early with Jonathan seeming decidedly cool.
- Disturbed by Matt’s heavy hints, Lilian is anxious to introduce him to a designer she has met, who could be just the man for the paper mill conversion. Matt seems equally impressed. Maybe he and Lilian should work together like this more often…
