Josh finds cows interesting. Matt makes an interesting discovery.
Radio Times: Lilian is after information and Pat puts on a good show.
Characters: David, Josh, Lilian, Matt, Pat, Ruth, Wayne Foley- Josh surprises his parents by getting up early and offering to help on the farm. Ruth is glad of his company as she milks and washes down the parlour. Using her sentimental voice, Ruth tells Josh the history of the Brookfield herds down the years, and why she loves the cows so much.
- Someone else is up early, too. At the Dower House, Matt is hard at work before Lilian is even awake. But he upsets her when he says they will have to miss Lynda’s party, and therefore James’ company, because one of his business contacts has invited them to a barbecue.
- A nervous Pat does her Radio Borsetshire interview. She is hesitant at first, but gathers courage and gives a convincing performance, particularly when she asked about the children still in hospital.
- Matt manages to restore himself to Lilian’s good books when he finds out that Daryl Polhill is the brother of a contractor they use, and is currently going through a messy divorce, which involves selling the house. That will mean he is in no position to buy Ronnie’s business. Lilian wants to tell Chris and Alice straight away.
- At the shop, Pat meets Ruth and tells her she is trying to restore customer confidence in Bridge farm. She is upset about losing the Underwood’s contract, and hope her other customers will return.
- Josh tells David how much he likes working with the cows. Maybe he could have some extra pocket money for helping. David agrees to talk to Ruth. Later Ruth tells David about her conversation with pat. Even with poor milk yields, things at Brookfield could be a lot worse. David agrees, but could Brookfield ever support Josh and Pip if they want to join the family farm?
