Justin’s support for greener, more sustainable ventures is bound to go down well with the community. Elizabeth celebrates her 49th Birthday with all her family around her.

Radio Times: Lilian is on a spree and the Brookfield Archers raise a glass.

  • Brian’s reference to the increase in extended families living under the same roof falls on Lilian’s deaf ears. Since Justin moved into the Dower House yesterday, Lilian has noticed his under-stated furnishings and is taking him shopping, which includes ‘try before you buy’ spring-testing mattresses in the showroom, which Lilian particularly seems to enjoy.
  • Shula and Jill are planting up Shula’s vegetable patch and discussing the bees’ health. They comment on Lynda’s shepherd’s hut, Jim’s move, with or without Jazzer and the forthcoming church AGM. Jill is relieved that village life appears to be getting back to normal, although they do spare a thought for Helen’s plight and what the family must be going through.
  • Justin and Brian congratulate themselves on the outcome of the morning’s Board meeting. Justin will be pleased to throw his weight behind greener, more sustainable farming methods, with a dual benefit of long-term profit, while scoring Brownie points with the community. Lilian suggests he could earn a few more points by offering to replace the village hall stage curtains. Justin is pleased to hear that Rob Titchener is out of danger: the community cannot afford to lose a character of his calibre.
  • Elizabeth finalises plans on the phone with David for her Birthday evening, and talk turns to their respective offspring. Pip is in a good mood, having been offered a loan by her parents to further her business. Elizabeth hopes her own two show as much enthusiasm over their careers, when the time comes. It doesn’t always run smoothly, cautions David, as he and Ruth are currently learning with some of Josh’s actions. With the exception of Dan who is working away, it’s a full family turnout for Elizabeth’s meal – Kenton and Jolene included. The evening is a success and is rounded off with toasts to Elizabeth: Birthday Girl and Business Woman of the Year Runner-Up; absent friends and Her Majesty the Queen on her 90th Birthday.
