  • Kate calls Grey Gables and Lynda mentions Kate’s retreat but Kate is worried about her lack of clientele. Lynda is supportive and tells Kate to bring in more leaflets. Ian is leaving for 2 days holiday and tells Lynda he has been offered a new job and will be thinking about it.
  • Neil and Eddie are sorting apples for cider. Susan is in the dumps and won’t stop looking at the calendar. Eddie notes that it doesn’t help that the stickers come off so easily! Eddie has advice and tells Neil to keep telling her she’s beautiful. Neil worries that Susan would have plastic surgery if they could afford it. Eddie suggests having Susan front a stall at Apple Day; that will certainly cheer her up.
  • Ian shows Lynda the website of the place which has offered him employment but it is in Edinburgh. Ian would be his own boss in a bistro that is under the brand of another chef. Whether he takes the job or not, Ian feels chuffed that he is valued and wanted by someone.
  • Kate bothers Adam as he is lifting heavy sacks of feed. She tells Adam that his marriage was never going to work; he is a free-spirit like Kate. As Kate continues to compare Adam to herself, Adam protests and becomes angry until Kate mentions that Ian is leaving Ambridge for Edinburgh; clearly Kate hasn’t understood that Ian hasn’t yet accepted the job. Adam is stunned.
  • Eddie suggests using the broken elves as prizes for the kids on Apple Day but Neil declares they belong on the tip. Eddie protests the broken bits could be described as puzzle pieces. Eddie gives up and changes the topic: Joe is still complaining about his deceased wife’s mangle in the field. Even though the Grundys have settled into Grange Farm, it won’t be home until the old mangle is set up in the front of the house.
  • Adam leaves a desperate message again for Ian, begging Ian to talk things out. Ian is listening to the message but won’t pick up as Adam begs him to call. As he walks out the door Ian mutters, ‘Sorry, Adam’.
