Lynda is not happy, will Eddie be paid? Plans for both anniversaries rumble on.
Radio Times: Lilian and Jennifer are party planning and Eddie and Joe drum up trade.
Characters: Clarrie, Eddie, Emma, Jennifer, Joe, Lilian- It’s a truly domestic scene. Clarrie and Emma discuss George and Keira’s complex sandwich requirements for school lunch. Eddie feels that George could make his own; Joe reckons that they should be grateful for what they get. Plans are afoot for Emma’s first wedding anniversary. Eddie plans a night at The Bull with the profits from today’s sale of “Elvish” goods. Clarrie is not convinced. Eddie ignores a call from Lynda.
- Jenny has arranged to see Fallon regarding supplies for her forthcoming 40th wedding anniversary bash. Lilian spots that she’s distracted by something else. Well, it’s the fact that she’s heard nothing from Tony and Peggy, and she’s worried about her mother travelling such distances. Lilian glosses over her concerns. They should leave right now; everyone needs brightening up with a good party.
- Joe grumbles that he’s sold absolutely nothing in the way of “elf goods”. Eddie says that Ed phoned looking for ideas for Emma’s anniversary gift. He wants to splash out as she’s made him the happiest man in the world. Joe spots a potential punter, but she doesn’t stop. He suspects he’d do better if he sat on a toadstool to encourage customers. Oops … that gives Eddie an idea. He races off to execute plan B, much to Joe’s consternation.
- Jenny is disappointed that Fallon has been delayed. Still, Emma has everything under control and nips to the kitchen to get the food samples. Jenny receives a text. Tony and Peggy have stopped for a break. Jenny’s still concerned that it’s too much for her mother. Lilian comments that “she’s not dead yet”. This reminds her of the third anniversary of the death of a close friend. “Carpe diem” she ponders, as Emma returns with the samples. Yes indeed! Poor Paul.
- Lilian and Jenny take a walk in Ambridge Wood. Jenny is not impressed with the appearance of “elfish” paraphernalia. Lilian reflects on the passing of the years. She insists that Jenny and Brian make a good team. Jenny counters by saying that Lilian too has her good side. She’s warm, energetic and such good fun. Lilian agrees sheepishly; it’s strange, that’s what Justin says. Jenny is shocked by the appearance a small, elf “loo”. Brian will be furious. Well, says Lilian, elves have needs too.
- Joe is in his element. Eddie’s plan, to dress him in big ears and a floppy green hat, seems to have paid dividends. Sales are well and truly on the up. He’s delighted to have been described by a customer as a latter-day Gandalf, “whoever he might be!” When they arrive back home, Clarrie is dumbstruck but Joe has none of it, they earned good money, someone even paid to have their photo taken with him. Eddie spots Lynda’s car. Yes, says Clarrie, she’s there and complaining bitterly about the mushroom compost supplied by Eddie. She has a terrible allergy. Eddie goes to face his nemesis. Hey ho!
