Mike finally says goodbye to Ambridge and Brenda finally manages to talk to Tom and Roy.
Radio Times: It is time to raise a toast to the Tuckers, and Brenda and Tom catch up.
Characters: Brenda, Mike, Neil, Roy, Susan, Tom, Vicky- Susan’s shift at the shop is interrupted by the reappearance of Brenda, home for the farewell party in honour of her dad and Vicky. Susan is delighted to see her and indeed to be back in Ambridge.
- As Neil sees to the pigs and chats to Tom, Brenda appears. Neil makes his excuses and leaves the duo to a rather uncomfortable conversation. Brenda shows considerable sensitivity, but Tom ruefully admits that he managed to screw up two relationships before running away to Canada. But for Tony’s accident he would still be there. Will Tom be at the party? He seems unsure.
- Vicky nags Mike about packing china, becoming more strident by the minute. Roy appears, looking for Brenda, who has taken Bethany out.
- Neil is treated to a lecture on the making of champagne cocktails by Susan, who is determined to impress. Some people have sophisticated tastes, she says. Apparently Neil is not among them. Vicky seems appreciative, however, and continues to tell the world how she tried to be a country woman when she moved to Ambridge, but somehow never quite succeeded. But she will miss the cows.
- Brenda finds Roy on his own, unable to face the party. She asks how he feels about the move, and a mournful Roy admits that he feels that everyone has deserted him. Brenda is shocked at his appearance, and finds it hard to cheer her brother up. It seems that he has not yet heard about that Kate has given up her course. She asks how he will manage without Mike, and Roy sadly replies that Mike has enough on his plate and can’t be expected to worry about Roy.
- Finally the speeches start, and Neil looks back on 42 years of friendship with Mike. He is unable to imagine life without Mike in the village, but wishes him and Vicky all the best. A toast is drunk to Mike and Vicky.
