  • Kirsty and Helen are tidying the shop. Plans are being made to go to tonight’s WI meeting at the village hall followed by a drink. Rob is babysitting. Helen feels that he has really taken well to family life. She feels that though she has lost one live-in babysitter, she has gained another.
  • Jill is cutting down raspberry canes at Brookfield with Ben. Ruth offers her help and a lift to the village hall later, as she has decided to go after all. Jill wonders if her interest has been sparked by the speaker.
  • The village hall is bulging at the seams. Emma, Kirsty and Helen agree that there seemed to be more younger members than usual. Elsewhere, Jenny tells Ruth and Jill that she has her own idea for a future meeting, high end kitchen design. Ruth feels it sounds more like a sales pitch but Jill offers to put it forward. Jenny bemoans Brian’s lack of interest in fixing her kitchen tap and drawer, then rushes to speak to Lynda. Ruth wonders if Brian may live to regret his lack of interest in kitchen maintenance. The room falls silent, “PC Burns has entered the building”.
  • At The Bull, Jill bathes in thanks for inviting PC Burns to speak. She was happy to see younger members, whatever their motivations. Helen, Kirsty and Emma talk of some of the activities of groups with younger members, learning mandarin and Zumba, as well as more traditional skills. Everyone comments what fun it has been and Jill mentions that she enjoyed an evening in the company of women.
  • Before leaving The Bull, Jenny suggests using David’s book to try to track down present day families of its subjects, for the WW1 project. Ruth and Jolene agree, perhaps contact may be made with the author. Jolene confides that the insurance company will honour their claim but next year’s premiums could be a problem. Elsewhere, Jill, Helen, and Kirsty are deep in debate about pole dancing. When challenged, Emma feels that it’s just harmless fun. Ruth appears to take Jill home. Left on their own, Kirsty confides to Helen that she is still worried about Tom’s situation. Helen agrees saying that Pat too is very concerned and that they must talk to each other, properly.
