Pip agrees to move back into the Brookfield farm house without Toby and Jill is angry she was excluded from discussions on farm cutbacks due to compensation payments.

Radio Times: Jill has a bone to pick with David, and Pip does not want to be a burden.

  • Pip reports to Ruth that she will be out of Rickyard Cottage by evening. Ruth is concerned about Pip sleeping on a friend’s sofa; she suggests that Pip move back home instead. This involves Ben and Josh moving into one bedroom but Pip objects to this; she insists on sleeping in the dining room or nothing. (Is that less intrusive on family life than brothers sharing a room?) Pip asks where Toby would stay if she moves back in. Ruth quickly notes he can stay at Bert’s until Toby and Pip can find their own place.
  • Jill discusses Bartleby’s health with Eddie. Clarrie’s birthday celebration will be a meal in The Bull on Friday unless the B&B guests with their demands prevent it. Jill attempts to question Eddie about the lack of flowers in the SSSI. Kirsty was disappointed and Jill notes that Lower Loxley wildflowers are in full bloom. Eddie blusters about standing water and microclimates; plus visitors are tramping down the plants. In that case, Jill observes tartly, perhaps Eddie shouldn’t advertise the wildflowers on his website. As the conversation turns toward Eddie’s employment at Brookfield, it becomes clear Jill didn’t know about the severe cut backs. When Eddie tells her he no longer has paid jobs with the Archers, Jill quickly leaves.
  • David and Ruth discuss the possibility of seeing the back of Toby but Ruth cautions that it doesn’t seem likely at this juncture. Pip is still wearing Toby’s charm bracelet although David discounts the importance of this. Jill bursts in, very angry about not being included in family discussions about the compensation payments. How much is owed? Tens of thousands, David admits. Jill wants to pay from her savings but David flatly refuses. Jill extracts a promise that her funds will be used if things get any worse.
  • Pip promises Eddie he will be first to be rehired if things change. She is also looking out for employment for him. Pip then enters the farmhouse and overhears a discussion between Ruth and David about refusing Jill’s savings. Pip whines that the IBR was her mistake and it is not right to take Jill’s money. Her parents assure her it won’t come to that. Pip again seems to think she can orchestrate all changes when she objects to Josh and Ben sharing a room to give her space. David and Ruth assure her they really want her in the farmhouse. They appreciate her sacrifices.
