Roy is desperate to make things right with Phoebe. David looks for a farm ‘up north’.
Radio Times: David and Ruth find themselves beyond their comfort zone, and Roy needs help.
Characters: Carol, David, Hayley, Jill, Roy, Ruth- The harvest service was lovely, especially the wheatsheaf loaf prepared by Fallon but not the hamper from BL which was quite inappropriate, according to Carol and Jill. They encounter a subdued Hayley and Jill correctly attributes her mood to Lower Loxley and hence Elizabeth. David has been quiet all weekend too. Carol lightens Jill’s mood by offering help with her harvest supper baking.
- Meanwhile David is researching farms for sale in Northumberland. Here’s one that’s not too bad – but if they are to uproot from Ambridge, it’s got to be perfect.
- At Willow Farm, Roy tentatively asks whether Hayley has had a chat with Phoebe. She has and can confirm that Phoebe knows all about his affair. Jill had commented that Elizabeth was missing Roy in organising the Hunt Ball and when Roy shows too much interest in this, Hayley accuses him of still caring about Elizabeth.
- Here’s a good one: a 450 acre mixed farm with a lovely farmhouse. They need to look at it, so David agrees to go with Ruth when she visits Prudhoe again this week. They won’t say anything to the children but what about mum?
- Has Roy any idea what it was like to be told by their daughter that her husband has been having an affair? Don’t touch me. Roy wonders what he can say to Phoebe; she must really hate him. Hayley advises him to say nothing: anything he said would be wrong; Phoebe needs time. Roy feebly suggests that they go to the harvest supper en famille, though Phoebe probably wouldn’t go for that at the best of times. Maybe if Beth goes …
