School holidays cause chaos; the road meeting stirs strong feelings.

Radio Times: Lynda interferes, and Chris receives a fright.

Characters: , , , , ,
  • Neil is helping David on the farm but admits he is also happy to escape the little ones. Neil tries to ask about the combine fiasco and Ed but David is distracted.
  • In the village hall, Lynda confronts Gary Stevens before the meeting. She objects to the physical set-up and implies that things are deliberately confusing. What is it that he is trying to convey, asks Lynda?
  • Ruth’s mum had a fall and had to go to A&E. David is relieved that she is healing but Ruth worries about why her mother fell. Like Neil’s grandchildren, poor Ben is also in the way both at home and at Lower Loxley.
  • Lynda bursts in on Ruth and David having lunch. She saw the details of the road preview. Alternate Routes A and C are being glossed over but Lynda says that she convinced him to present their value clearly. This is another line of argument in case the butterfly angle fails.
  • At the contentious meeting, Neil suggests upgrading the existing road. It is clear that large commercial firms are favoured in the proposed roads over ancient woodland and wildlife.
  • As Lynda and David hand out leaflets outside the hall, teens are causing noise on the green much to Lynda’s irritation. Meanwhile, inside, Charlie Thomas is arguing with Ruth, Neil and David. Road B will benefit his boss Justin Elliott, David points out, and the road won’t create local jobs as Charlie claims. A teen throws a brick at Charlie as he storms out, narrowly missing him, but whose child was it?
