Radio Times: Pat is feeling concerned, and Dan heads off to Sandhurst.

  • All aboard for Sandhurst! Into the car has been packed all the kit that Dan is required to have with him – but no jeans: they are forbidden.
  • Pat is worried that something has happened to Tom. Tony is not: he takes at face value Tom’s desire to be alone to sort himself out. He is a grown man who has made an unholy mess of things, so leave him to it. Tony checks the animals and finds Jazzer belatedly feeding the pigs; Jazzer reminds Tony that his availability will soon be reduced by sheep-shearing commitments but Tony is confident that Tom will be back by then.
  • Being surrounded by army history and army smartness doesn’t make Alistair comfortable but, all too soon for Shula, the order has been given to say goodbye. For the next five weeks Dan will be able to communicate only in the evenings: phones must be off during the day.
  • Pat has arranged for Roy to let her into Tom’s cottage, hoping to find some clue to where he has gone. She prevails on him to ring Brenda, in case Tom has contacted her. Despite Roy’s protestation that Brenda is now engaged to someone else, he does leave a voicemail message for Brenda.
  • On the way home a tearful Shula rejects Alistair’s advice and sends a text message for Dan to receive this evening.
