Susan tries to stir up trouble and Lilian hopes to recapture her youthful allure with injections.
Radio Times: Lilian makes a few changes, while Susan hears some gossip.
Characters: Brian, Jennifer, Lilian, Shula, Susan, Tom, Usha- Lilian arrives home from her London visit wearing dark glasses. Brian tries to find out why but Lilian is evasive and goes upstairs to rest.
- Jennifer interviews Susan about her views on the flood action plan. Susan sings the praises of Justin Elliott and wants him involved. Jennifer counters that perhaps he doesn’t have the best interests of the community in mind. Usha is looking for Tom but she asks Jennifer about her contribution to the barn dance communal supper. Jennifer reissues her earlier offer of quiche and hurries out. Susan snipes about Jennifer not volunteering for clean-up duty; Susan plays the martyr and offers herself for anything that needs doing.
- Brian warns Jennifer that something is up with Lilian. Lilian makes an appearance and her face stops all conversation. It is Botox, darling. It took only an hour and “hardly hurt at all”. Lilian demands compliments which are slow in coming.
- Usha has received a commitment from Tom for donated pork for the barn dance. Shula happens upon the scene and promises anything cold; she is still recovering from the Great Soufflé Disaster. Susan deliberately stirs the pot by bringing up Richard in front of Shula and Usha. After Shula leaves, Susan tries to engage Usha in a bit of gossip about the past love triangle involving Richard, Usha and Shula. Usha closes that avenue quickly by noting that it was all in the distant past. Usha herself spoke to Richard in a pleasant conversation.
- Brian declares that Lilian looks ghastly after her “beauty” session and he hopes that Jennifer is not considering the same. Jennifer points out that Lilian is feeling lonely and insecure since Matt absconded; she needs to be supported. Lilian comes down and asks for Jennifer’s honest opinion. When Jennifer declares Lilian looks marvellous, Lilian turns to Brian. How does he think she looks? After a tense silence and a warning tone from Jennifer, Brian declares that Lilian doesn’t look a day over 50 and were he not happily married to Lilian’s sister, he would ardently pursue the renewed Lilian. Lilian giggles and seems happy with the obligatory flattery.
