The Bridge Farm inquisition continues. Jack’s high and mighty adopted daughter rides into town.
Radio Times: Pat has suspicions and Peggy’s plans are overturned.
Characters: Hazel, Jennifer, Kirsty, Pat, Peggy, Tom- Needless to say the news of Helen and Rob’s relationship is spreading: Jennifer’s call at Bridge Farm is not really to discuss the funeral but rather to probe Pat about you know what. She doesn’t get much; Pat is still struggling to get used to the idea herself. Lilian has already cornered Kirsty and Pat misses no opportunity to quiz both Tom and Kirsty, separately and together. They are united in their response: she must talk to Helen.
- There’s a visitor heading for Peggy’s. She’s already been encountered by Tom manoeuvring a trailer – so rude! It is Hazel Woolley – pure poison. Now she calmly announces to Jennifer and Peggy that she has planned a short and simple service, with some readings. So it doesn’t go down well when they tell her that the order of service, complete with Jack’s favourite hymns, has already been discussed with the vicar and sent to the printers. Peggy, ever the soul of diplomacy, negotiates a compromise: they agree to change one hymn. Hazel, who had such a close relationship with daddy as a child, plans to speak at the funeral; of course – but Jennifer will follow her. Now, she must be tired, so they won’t keep her from Grey Gables.
- Just one more question before Tom goes: Pat has found the necklace that Helen ‘made’ for her and seeks confirmation that she didn’t make it at all; she has worked out that the jewellery classes were not real but just an excuse to meet up with Rob. Tom does his best to stick to the agreed line: ask Helen.
