• Emma and Ed are joining Nic, the children and Joe for a picnic at the cricket. They muse on the fact that this time next week they will be married. No fancy hen or stag nights on their agenda: just a traditional evening in The Bull with their mates. The main thing is that people are happy for them. Caroline is helping Emma choose a dress for Clarrie tomorrow.
• Will has mislaid his binoculars which he’ll need for first light tomorrow for the bird race. He and Nic comment on how heated the competition has become between Jim and Robert. Will’s complaining that he’s got to take time off work on Friday for the wedding and Nic tries to pacify him.
• The cricket match is in full swing and Ed, Emma and Joe comment on the players, tactics and new talent in the team, while Nic watches the children. Will meets with the rest of the family post-match and is paid a compliment by Ed on his performance, which Will accepts but doesn’t develop the conversation. A disappointed Ed confides in Joe that he doesn’t know what it will take for all the ill-feeling to be put behind them.
• Jennifer has been talking with her contacts about the flood and plenty of information is surfacing. She confides in David that something odd has come to light. One of the milkers at Berrow Farm, Stefan, witnessed something that he neither wishes to pass on over the phone, nor in person on either his or Jennifer’s properties. He wants to meet her in a coffee shop. The secrecy and Stefan’s apparent nervousness during their exchange, causes a disconcerted Jennifer to ask David to accompany her when she meets him on Tuesday.
