The family pretend they are happy with Jill moving north with Ruth and David.
Radio Times: It is an emotional time for Jill. Meanwhile, there are plans afoot for Peggy’s party.
Characters: Elizabeth, Helen, Jill, Kenton, Pat, Shula, Tony- Kenton appears to have set fire to something and is appearing to blame someone else. It’s time for a family meeting at The Stables. Jill wants Elizabeth, Kenton and Shula to understand how things are. Jill tries to explain that they need to talk through the money and Kenton is clear that they will deal with that but he doesn’t understand why they are moving now before any decision is made. They will hardly see Jill if she moves. Jill wants to stress that she loves them all equally (because they are all about 4 years old). Jill says she needs to be useful. It’s what she lives for. Jill gets very tearful.
- Pat is planning Peggy’s birthday. Family is important to Tony. But Pat has asked Fallon to do the cake. Johnny has been asking what he should buy too. Peggy is getting ready. She needs to get her hair done. Then Helen reminds Pat that she has to go on her hygiene refresher course so Helen offers to take Peggy instead.
- The children all agree they are behind Jill to her face but behind her back, Shula and Kenton say that Ruth and David should stay behind for Jill’s sake. How can she leave Phil and what will it be like without her. It will be at least a couple of years before anything happens.
- Jill gets upset talking to Elizabeth again. But she says she has made her mind up and has to get on with it.
