Tom returns to Bridge Farm to say goodbye.

Radio Times: Charlie surprises Adam, while Pat and Tony get a shock.

Characters: , , , , , ,
  • Tony maintains his relentless anti-Tom moan while Pat tries to look at the practicalities. Helen arrives and offers to help pack vegetables, but far from cooling the situation, this makes things worse as Tony demands to know if she agrees with Peggy about organic farming. Helen tries to prevaricate, but is forced to say she thinks maybe Rob has the right idea.
  • As Charlie and Adam have a drink together, Charlie wants to know whether Adam shares his dream – to feed the world and make not only a difference but a profit. Adam is forced to say that he does indeed share that dream, and they part on good terms, though Charlie sneaks out of The Bull’s rear entrance to avoid Lynda Snell, who has been lobbying him about the road scheme. David spots him, and Adam admits that there is more to Charlie than he originally thought. Maybe he would know something about the road scheme; he is, after all, in with BL.
  • Helen complains about Tony to Pat; things are not black and white; Rob is just being supportive. Their conversation comes to an abrupt end as Tom appears. Pat dissolves into tears of joy.
  • The prodigal’s return is less welcome when Tony appears and immediately goes on the attack. Tom admits he has made big mistakes, and knows things can never go back to what they were. Pat tries desperately to intervene, but Tony is on a roll. Eventually Tom is able to tell them that he has come to say goodbye. He thinks he has a buyer for the ready meals business, and he has a job interview lined up in Ontario, and thinks he has a good chance. He is flying out tomorrow, so has come to pack and say goodbye.
