Tony and Pat search for a solution for Johnny on the farm ad Roy tries to convince Hayley he wants their family life.
Radio Times: Tony has got plans for Johnny, and Hayley is grieving.
Characters: Hayley, Johnny, Pat, Roy, Sharon, Tony- Hayley and Roy have a late night conversation. Hayley accuses Roy of never thinking of the girls. Was their marriage really that bad?
- Johnny meets Tony very early and says he is going to deal with the pigs. He knows he has to be back for his mum at 11.
- Hayley laments that it is Elizabeth of all people. Roy is very apologetic but says all the wrong things. Hayley points out that they live in the real world of details with the kids. Roy’s fantasy with Elizabeth means nothing in the day to day.
- Johnny is late for Sharon and Pat tries to smooth over the difficulties. When Tony and Johnny arrive, Tony tries to convey that Johnny is really good on the farm; Sharon is struck with the contrast of Johnny’s reluctance to undertake chores at home.
- Sharon points out that his proper life is in Leeds with college and his mates. Tony suggests Johnny might be able to attend college and work on the farm. Johnny asks Sharon to understand that he wants to undertake an apprenticeship two days a week while he is at college at Borchester. Sharon is uncertain and wants to talk to her husband, Johnny’s step-father.
- After the girls are up for the night, Roy begs Hayley to start again. Hayley is reluctant. Roy declaims that he loves Hayley and the girls. All the other is over. Hayley wants assurances that the affair with Elizabeth is at an end. Roy says that he is trying for an ordinary, happy family. Hayley points out that he shouldn’t have to ‘try’. She dissolves in tears.
