  • Following the death of a cow, Alistair calls to break some bad new; it may well be TB in the herd. Tony is unable to take the news in; he did everything by the book. Alistair does his best to calm Tony down, but they will just have to wait for the test results. Meanwhile, says Tony, what if any more of them are infected?
  • Kirsty and Helen giggle excitedly over their plans for a hen night, though Helen refuses to divulge details of her plans. Helen tells Kirsty about going to see Ian. She is worried what will happen at the Stag do if Ian and Rob should have another fight. Kirsty tries to reassure her, and asks for time to go to the bank to see if they will make a mortgage offer.
  • Just as Alistair is leaving, Tom arrives, and an upset Tony asks Alistair to break the news. Predictably, Tom is furious, and once again asks how his father could be so stupid. Not only has he bought the herd without consulting anyone else, he let them get out into Tom’s pig field, and now one of them has died, probably of TB. A furious row ensues, with Tom telling Tony he is utterly selfish. It could impact on the pork business.
  • A delighted Kirsty tells Helen her news; the bank has made a mortgage offer, but it is for a fixed term, so should there be any delay in the building or a rise in interest rates, they could be in trouble. Meanwhile she and Helen enthuse over kitchen units and tiles.
  • Tom asks Alistair what the effect of the TB on his herd might be. Alistair thinks there should be no problem. He is free to send pigs for slaughter, though the carcasses might have to be inspected. The chances of the pigs becoming infected are very small.
  • When Tom gets home, Kirsty wants to discuss their exciting news and allied wedding matters, but Tom is in no mood for this. Helen takes his side, but it does little to cheer him up. Mortgages, kitchens, wedding lists and Alice’s ideas must wait. He needs a bath to wash away his dreadful day. Tom has had about as much as he can take.
