Tony is off on his holiday cruise and Kenton is irrational in his anger toward David.

Radio Times: Tony needs a break. Kenton does not need charity.

Characters: , , , , , ,
  • Tom talks to Tony about the cruise that he and Pat are taking around the Mediterranean. Tony is a bit conflicted about missing the silaging but Tom reassures him. Pat needs it even more than Tony, Tom reminds him, and the farm is in good hands. Tom also leaks the news about Helen giving the BL presentation. Ed turns up, back from his honeymoon and ready to work.
  • Kenton shows up unannounced at Brookfield Farm and is furious about David’s participation in the surprise television purchase. Kenton shouts and is irrational in his anger: David’s charity is an insult and Kenton is the older brother. He and Jolene are survivors and will get on without David in the future.
  • Lynda chats with Christine in the village shop as Christine buys the ingredients for Shula’s cake. They discuss Robert and Jim and their loss of interest in ‘competitive’ bird-watching.
  • David asks Tom to provide food for the open farm Sunday but Charlie Thomas has already booked Tom’s services for Berrow Estate. David is resigned and notes he will just serve teas. David asks Ed about his honeymoon and Ed notes that when he and Emma returned, they found that Will had cleared their garden for them. It seems that the Grundy brothers are reconciled at long last and this irony is not lost on David after the disturbing scene with Kenton.
  • Tony tries to buy sweets at the village shop but Lynda is more interested in talking about dogs. Tony is off to the airport and doesn’t want to participate in any discussion; he wishes her good luck in finding Scruff. Lynda is a bit wistful in her thanks and farewells.
  • Ed is having a pint with Tom at The Bull. Kenton tells them that the football will be shown this Saturday. They ask if the television has been fixed but Kenton mysteriously tells them that things will be sorted.
